easy to train and their kind, gentle nature allows them to mix well with other family pets.  Not only does the Golden Retriever make a superb companion, its combination of intelligence and gentleness make it an excellent choice as a guide dog for the blind, hearing dog for the deaf and as a therapy dog.  Golden Retrievers are also used as "sniffer dogs", detecting drugs, arms and explosives.

Golden Retriever is a medium-sized, lively dog requiring regular exercise and grooming.  The standards for Golden Retrievers are as follows.  Females should be 21 1/2 -

to remove loose hair and prevent mats from forming.  Depending on personal preference, Goldens may need minimal trimming of the ears, neck, feet and tail.  Most Goldens adore water, so be prepared to rinse your dog's coat after a swim in a muddy stream or salt water.
